Writing Studio Ltd (trading as "Writing Studio," "we," "our," or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard information when you use our website and app at writingstudio.com and app.writingstudio.com (the "Service").

1. Information we collect
Account information. When you create an account, our authentication provider, Clerk, collects your email address and, if you sign in with Google, basic profile information from your Google account.
Your documents and content. Depending on how you use the Service, your drafts and documents may be stored locally in your browser, in your account, or both. When you use an AI feature (autocomplete, edit, chat, or review), the relevant portion of your document is sent to our AI processing provider to generate a response.
Usage data. We track how many AI requests you make against your plan's usage limits. We may also collect basic technical information, such as browser type and general usage patterns, to maintain and improve the Service.
Billing information. If you subscribe to a paid plan, payments are handled directly by Stripe. We do not receive or store your full card number.

To communicate with you about your account or the Service

We do not sell your personal information or your documents, and we do not use your documents to train AI models.
3. How we share information
We share information only with the service providers necessary to operate Writing Studio, including:
Anthropic — processes portions of your document content to generate AI suggestions, edits, chat responses, and reviews.
Clerk — manages account authentication and sign-in.
Stripe — processes subscription payments.
Vercel — hosts the Service.
These providers only receive the information necessary to perform their function and are not permitted to use it for unrelated purposes. We may also disclose information if required by law, or to protect the rights, safety, or property of Writing Studio or others, or as part of a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, in which case we will notify you before your information becomes subject to a different privacy policy.
4. Local storage
Some of Your Content and preferences may be stored locally in your browser rather than on our servers. This data stays on your device and is not visible to us unless you explicitly submit it through an AI feature or account sync.
5. Data retention
We retain account information for as long as your account remains active, and for a reasonable period afterward for record-keeping and legal compliance. You can request deletion of your account and associated data at any time by contacting us.
6. Your rights
Depending on your location, you may have rights under applicable data protection law, including the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020, the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) if you are a California resident, and, where applicable, the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). These rights may include the ability to access, correct, or delete your personal information, or to object to or restrict certain processing. To exercise these rights, contact us using the details below. We will respond within a reasonable timeframe and in accordance with applicable law. You may also lodge a complaint with the New Zealand Office of the Privacy Commissioner, or the relevant data protection authority in your own location, if you believe we haven't handled your personal information in accordance with applicable law.
7. Children's privacy
The Service is not directed at children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 16.
8. International data transfers
We and our service providers may process and store information in countries other than your own, including the United States. Where this occurs, we take reasonable steps to ensure your information continues to be protected in accordance with this policy.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by an updated "Last updated" date above.
