How it works

Step 1

Add your paper

Paste your text or upload a PDF or Word file. The more of your methods and results you include, the more specific your abstract.

Step 2

Choose your options

Pick one paragraph or a structured abstract, a word limit from 150 to 300, your subject and your tone.

Step 3

Revise and copy

Make it shorter, simpler or more focused, edit it yourself, then copy it or download it as a Word file.

How to write a good abstract

An abstract is a short summary of your paper. It helps readers, reviewers and search engines decide whether to read the whole thing. Most good abstracts follow the same pattern.

Follow the order of your paper

Start with the problem and why it matters, then your aim, your methods, your main results and what they mean. One or two sentences for each is usually enough.

Give your real results

Say what you found, with the key numbers, instead of saying that results are discussed. Readers want the finding, not a promise of one.

Make it stand on its own

Someone should understand your abstract without reading the paper. Leave out citations, spell out abbreviations and skip details only the full paper can explain.

Keep to the word limit

Most journals and universities ask for 150 to 300 words, and APA Style suggests no more than 250. Check your guidelines, then cut anything that is not essential.

Use the words people search for

Include the terms other researchers would use to find your work, and add keywords if your journal asks for them. This helps databases match your paper to searches.

Write it last

Your abstract summarizes the finished paper, so write it after everything else. Then check every claim in it against your results.

Frequently asked questions

Is this abstract generator free?

Yes. You can write 5 abstracts and make 10 revisions a day for free, with no signup. If you need more, you can create a free Writing Studio account.

What should I paste in?

Your full paper works best. If it is long, paste the introduction, methods, results and discussion. The generator needs at least 30 words and reads up to 12,000. Short texts give a shorter, more general abstract.

What is the difference between a structured and an unstructured abstract?

An unstructured abstract is one paragraph. A structured abstract puts the same content under headings such as Background, Methods, Results and Conclusion. Many medical and science journals ask for structured abstracts, so check your journal’s guidelines.

How long should an abstract be?

Usually 150 to 300 words. APA Style suggests no more than 250 words, and many journals set their own limit. Choose your limit in the options, then check the word count before you submit.

Can I upload a PDF or Word file?

Yes. The file is read in your browser, so the file itself is never uploaded. Check the text before you generate, especially for PDFs with columns, tables or footnotes. Scanned PDFs without selectable text can’t be read.

Is my paper stored?

No. Your text is sent to our AI provider only to write your abstract, and it is not saved on our servers. Your abstracts stay in your browser tab until you close it.

Does it work in other languages?

Yes. The abstract is written in the same language as your paper.

Can it make mistakes?

Yes. It is told to use only what is in your text and to leave out citations, but like any AI tool it can still get things wrong. Check names, numbers and claims against your paper before you submit.

Can I use an AI generated abstract?

Check your university’s or journal’s policy on AI tools first, since policies differ and some ask you to say you used one. Treat the result as a first draft and make it your own.
