What makes a good conclusion paragraph
A strong conclusion does three jobs, in this order, and avoids a few common mistakes.
Restate your thesis
Remind the reader of your main claim in fresh words. Copying the thesis from your introduction word for word feels repetitive.
Pull your points together
Show how your main points connect and why they matter together, instead of listing them one by one.
End with a final thought
Leave the reader with something to think about: why the topic matters, what should happen next, or what questions remain.
Add nothing new
A conclusion is not the place for new evidence, sources or claims. If an idea is important, move it into a body paragraph.
Skip cliché openers
Phrases like “In conclusion” and “To sum up” add nothing. Start with your main idea instead.
Match your essay’s voice
Keep the same tone, point of view and tense as the rest of your essay, so the ending feels like part of it.

Expository essay
Vaccines work by giving the immune system a safe preview of a germ, so it can prepare its defenses before a real infection arrives. From the first exposure to the memory cells that remain afterward, each step builds on the one before it. Understanding this process explains why some vaccines need boosters and why wide vaccination also protects people who cannot be vaccinated. Seen this way, a vaccine is less a medicine than a lesson the body remembers.
Research paper
This study found that students who used social media for more than 30 minutes before bed reported poorer sleep and took longer to fall asleep than students who used it briefly, even after accounting for caffeine and study hours. How long should a conclusion paragraph be?
Usually 5 to 7 sentences, or roughly a tenth of your essay. Short essays can end in 3 or 4 sentences, and long research papers may need more. Choose Short, Standard or Long in the options.
Can I start my conclusion with “In conclusion”?
It’s better not to. Readers already know they have reached the end, so signposts like “In conclusion” or “To sum up” waste your first words. Start with your restated thesis instead. The generator never uses them.
Can a conclusion add new information?
No. A conclusion pulls together what you have already argued. New arguments, evidence and sources belong in your body paragraphs. In a research paper, you can briefly suggest what future research could explore.
