Guide

Pick blog topics people search for. The best topics have readers, a keyword you can rank for and a link to what you sell.

Start with your reader’s problems

List the questions customers ask you, in sales calls, support emails and reviews. Each one is a post people want, in the words they use.

Topics that solve a real problem get searched, shared and linked to.

Check there’s search demand

Put the keyword into a keyword tool or Google Search Console to see if people search it. Google’s autocomplete and “People also ask” box are free signs of demand too.

Smaller, specific searches are often easier to rank for than broad ones, and the readers are closer to buying.

Know the search intent

Informational searches want to learn (“how to descale an espresso machine”). Commercial searches compare options (“best espresso machine under $500”). Transactional searches want to buy, and navigational ones want a site.

Match the post to the intent. A how-to won’t rank for a search that wants a comparison.

Pick topics you can win

Look at who ranks now. If the top results are big brands with deep guides, choose a narrower angle. If they’re thin or out of date, you have a chance.

Start with topics close to what you sell. They bring readers who might become customers.

Group topics into clusters

Plan one main guide on a broad topic and several posts on its subtopics, all linking to each other. This shows Google you cover the topic well and helps readers find more.
