Everything in the Meta Title Generator. Built to write titles that fit in Google and get clicked, and free.

Eight titles a run. Different angles on the same page, so you can pick the strongest.

Measured in pixels. Each title has a meter against the roughly 600 pixels Google shows.

Character counts. The length of every title, next to its meter.

Your keyword first. Titles put the words you want to rank for near the start.

Made for the page type. Blog posts, products, services and home pages each get titles that suit them, with your brand added if you like.

Preview in Google. Open any title in the SERP simulator to see how it looks in a real result.

Guide

Write meta titles that rank and get clicks. The meta title is the blue link in Google. It’s the first thing searchers read.

Keep it under 600 pixels

Google cuts titles by width, at about 600 pixels on desktop. That’s 50 to 60 characters for most words, fewer if you use wide letters like W and M.

If a title is cut, the end is lost, so put the important words first.

Lead with the keyword

Put the words people search for at the start. It tells searchers your page matches, and it’s what they scan for in the list of results.

Use the keyword once. Repeating it looks like spam and wastes room.

Add your brand at the end

End with a separator and your brand, like “ | Brewline”, if there’s room. On a home page, the brand can come first.

Google often adds the site name above the title anyway, so leave the brand out if the title is long.

Match the page type

Blog posts: say what the reader learns (“How to Descale an Espresso Machine”). Products: name, key detail, brand (“Linen Duvet Cover, Queen | Hearth”). Services: service and place (“Bookkeeping for Freelancers in Leeds”).

Give every page its own title

Duplicate titles make Google guess which page to show. Write a unique title for each page that describes it accurately; Google rewrites titles that don’t match the page.

A meta title, or title tag, is the HTML title of a page. Google usually shows it as the clickable headline in search results, and browsers show it on the tab.

Under about 600 pixels, which is usually 50 to 60 characters. Each title here has a meter so you can see how close it is.

Not always. The H1 is the heading on the page; the meta title is what shows in Google. They should match in meaning, but the meta title has to fit in 600 pixels.

Google rewrites titles that are too long, stuffed with keywords or don’t describe the page. A clear title that fits is the one most likely to be kept.

If there’s room, add it at the end. On your home page, it can come first.
