  2. 2

What it does

Everything in the Slug Generator. Built for clean URLs in seconds, and free.

Bulk slugs. One title a line, so a whole list of pages takes seconds.

Stop words out. Remove words like a, the, and and of for shorter slugs, or keep them.

A word limit. Keep slugs to between 3 and 8 words, or any length.

Accents made plain. Letters like é become e, and everything is lowercase.

Numbers and separators. Keep or drop numbers, and use hyphens or underscores.

Long slugs flagged. Slugs over about 60 characters are marked, and you can download them all as a CSV.

Guide

Write URL slugs that read well. The slug is the end of the address, after the domain. Short and clear is best.

Keep it short

A good slug is three to five words that say what the page is about. “/cold-brew-ratio” is easier to read, share and remember than “/the-best-cold-brew-coffee-ratio-for-making-it-at-home-2026”.

Shorter slugs also show in full in search results and when shared.

Use hyphens and lowercase

Google recommends hyphens to separate words in URLs, not underscores. Hyphens read as spaces; underscores can join words together.

Use lowercase only. Some servers treat “/Cold-Brew” and “/cold-brew” as different pages.

Include the keyword

Put the main words of the search in the slug. It tells readers and Google what the page is about before they click.

Leave out stop words like “a”, “the” and “of” when the slug still reads clearly without them.

Leave out dates and changing details

A year or a number in the slug, like “/best-tools-2026” or “/7-tips”, goes out of date when you update the post. Leave them out so the address can stay the same.

Don’t change slugs after publishing

Changing a live slug breaks links to the page. If you must, add a 301 redirect from the old address to the new one.

Three to five words is a good aim, and under about 60 characters. The generator flags slugs that run longer.

A little. A clear slug with the keyword helps people and Google understand the page, and readable URLs get clicked and shared more.
