Connect Shopify with a custom app token and publish articles to your store’s blog, with images in your Files.

Writing Studio publishes articles to your store's blog through Shopify's Admin API, with their images in your store's Files. It needs a custom app's token, nothing from the app store.

What you need

  • Your store address (like your-store.myshopify.com)
  • An Admin API access token from a custom app with the write_content and write_files scopes

Make a custom app and token

  1. Create a custom app for your store, named something like "Writing Studio". Shopify offers this under Settings › Apps in your admin (Develop apps), or in its Dev Dashboard.
  2. Give it the write_content and write_files Admin API scopes. write_files lets the article's images live in your store.
  3. Install it on your store and copy its Admin API access token. Shopify shows it once.

Connect

  1. In Writing Studio, open Integrations and choose Shopify.
  2. Enter your store address and paste the token, and choose Connect.
  3. Pick the blog to publish to.

What gets published

  • The title, handle, summary and full article, as a real Shopify article in the blog you chose
  • The featured image, set on the article with its alt text
  • The FAQ and the sources the article cites, at the end of the article
  • Links to your products and collections where they fit

When a post is refreshed, the same article is updated at the same address.

If it won't connect

  • Access denied: check the app has both scopes and was installed after you added them. Changing scopes means installing it again and copying the new token.
  • Wrong store: use the .myshopify.com address, not your own domain.

If a post fails to publish later, see Publishing for how retries work.
